PKU is a rare inherited metabolic disease characterized by the inability to utilize the essential amino acid phenylalanine (PHE). Amino acids, consumed from the food we eat, are necessary building blocks for our body proteins. People with PKU, like our precious children Addison and Brody, cannot break down PHE. If left untreated, PHE builds up in PKU patients’ blood and body tissues. This causes severe neurological complications including IQ and memory loss, concentration problems, mood disorders, early developmental delays and intellectual disabilities.

Despite groundbreaking research that has improved treatment of PKU, the NPKUA’s work is far from over until we FIND A CURE!

Our Lifting the Limits for PKU gala will be filled with laughs, celebration, inspiration and more. Proceeds go directly to the NPKUA Fund, a campaign created by the National PKU Alliance to fund PKU-related scientific research. This promising and peer-reviewed research has led to new therapy discoveries and most importantly, gotten us closer to finding a cure.

Get ready for a fun night out as we strive to elevate the futures of thousands of individuals who face the daily struggles of living with PKU!
